About Soldeu

Soldeu is one of the highest inhabited villages in the Pyrenees on the east side of Andorra, one mountain before the French border. It is situated at the heart of the largest mountain resort in the Pyrenees, Grandvalira. Grandvalira is an advanced modern resort that offers some of the best mountain sports and leisure in Europe. It boasts 193 km of piste, 66 lifts, quality snow, great piste and off piste riding, award winning instruction and almost permanent sunshine (Soldeu translating directly as 'sun God').

The previous reputation of Soldeu being suitable only for intermediates and below is long dead with rapid development opening up new more challenging terrain to winter sports enthusiasts of all levels. Soldeu is at the foot of the slopes and enjoys ski-into-the-village snow throughout the season due to its high altitude. A gondola and high speed six-man chair connect the village directly to the beautiful panoramic Pla d'Espiolets, the mountaintop plateau from which the whole domain is accessible

The village and its surrounding countryside are enchanting, true alpine and picture postcard. The village itself has lost none of it's traditional qualities with the majority of businesses and property still being owned and run by the families who have lived in Soldeu for generations. The majority of buildings in the area either new or old are built in a quaint mountain style with wood, stone and slate ever present. Some of the finer restaurants and bars in the village are tastefully converted barns, hundreds of years old, offering up traditional Andorran fare. Newer additions include the 5* Hotel Hermitage incorporating a brand new 4500m2 spa & leisure centre, one of the finest example of its type in Europe yet still offering a cosy family feel.
